Activists Are Trying to Force Mastercard to Cut Off Payments to The Far Right

Activists have successfully forced Mastercard to hold a vote by shareholders on a proposal which, if passed, could see the company monitoring payments to global far-right political leaders and white supremacist groups. The proposal aims to see Mastercard establish an internal “human rights committee” that would stop designated white supremacist groups and anti-Islam activists, such as Tommy Robinson, from getting access to money sent from donors using the company’s card payment services. It’s been conceived by US-based political activists SumOfUs, who want to escalate the battle against white supremacists and far-right groups from tech platforms like Facebook, Google, Twitter, Patreon, and PayPal to one of the biggest companies in world finance, in an attempt to choke off donations.

Robinson and several other leading figures in the global far right have been forced in recent months to solicit donations directly on their websites via Mastercard, Visa, and American Express after PayPal banned payments to them. Facebook also disabled the donation function on Robinson’s fan page before deleting it completely.

“Spreading hate involves spending money,” Eoin Dubsky, from SumOfUs, told BuzzFeed News. “Whether it’s paying for online advertising or organising violent rallies, white supremacist groups need financial services from companies like Mastercard.”

Tommy Robinson launches his EU election campaign in Wythenshawe, England. Over several months, SumOfUs has been locked in a battle with Mastercard executives behind the scenes in order to get the new committee proposal put to the shareholders ahead of the company’s June annual general meeting. It would see the formation of a “human rights committee” at the board level, which would monitor financial transactions with designated hate groups.  Documents seen by BuzzFeed News reveal that the US Securities and Exchange Commission has given the green light for shareholders to get the chance to vote on the formation of the committee, despite staunch opposition from the Mastercard board and executives.

In the material to be sent to shareholders, the activists refer to a website called Blood Money, which tracks online payments to white supremacist groups from the likes of Mastercard, American Express, and Stripe. The website currently claims that Mastercard services are being used by groups like Counter-Currents Publishing, Covenant People’s Ministry, the United West, Sultan Knish, and the Fitzgerald Griffin Foundation.SumOfUs has also pointed to the activity of Robinson, whose real name is Stephen Yaxley-Lennon. The former English Defence League founder is running as an independent in May’s European election.  In November 2018, PayPal banned donations to the anti-Islam activist, with the online payment company saying that its services wouldn’t “be used to promote hate, violence, or other forms of intolerance that is discriminatory”. More recently, Robinson has been calling on his global network of supporters to donate to his election campaign through his website, which allows payments from Mastercard.

“Having a Mastercard logo on their website also gives these groups a veneer of legitimacy, and allows those who want to donate to do so quickly and quietly,” Dubsky told BuzzFeed News.  “Mastercard also benefits, pocketing a transaction fee for each purchase or donation.”  Mastercard declined requests for comment, pointing instead to the board’s position laid out in the information sent to shareholders ahead of the general meeting.  “Mastercard is committed to treating all people fairly and with dignity, and our interest in human rights extends to all areas in which our business is involved and where we have particular expertise,” it reads. “The Board does not believe that establishing a separate human rights committee is necessary to properly exercise its oversight of this important area.”

It’s unclear whether the proposal stands a chance of succeeding at June’s meeting. But the move to confront such a big, mainstream company like Mastercard over issues like the funding of white supremacy and the far right comes after action from smaller, online financial platforms like PayPal and Patreon in the area.  PayPal has banned payments to Robinson, US far-right group Proud Boys, and Canadian anti-Islam activist Laura Loomer. It also acted against several US anti-fascist groups because the company had no tolerance for groups that promoted “hate” and “violence”.  Last year, Patreon banned YouTuber Sargon of Akkad over a 2015 video that featured the Gamergate leader repeatedly saying the n-word in a Google Hangout with the alt-right. According to the New York Times, Sargon of Akkad, whose real name is Carl Benjamin, had 3,000 subscribers and was being paid $12,000 a month on Patreon when he was removed from the site.

In a recent YouTube video, Benjamin and Robinson talked about being de-platformed by social media companies. But Robinson also suggested that he has long-term fears beyond the big tech companies.

“I am being completely un-personed,” Robinson said. “What’s next—my mobile-phone contract?”

Facebook Continues Its War on Dissent: Farrakhan, Alex Jones, Yiannopoulos, Loomer & Other Critics of Jews & Moslems Banned By Silicon Valley Censors

Facebook Continues Its War on Dissent: Farrakhan, Alex Jones, Yiannopoulos, Loomer & Other Critics of Jews & Moslems Banned By Silicon Valley Censors

In an all out war on politically incorrect dissent, Silicon Valley censors at Facebook banned a host of “dangerous” voices on Thursday. These included Nation of Islam leader Minister  Louis Farrakhan, talk radio host Alex Jones, two-time Congressional candidate Paul Nehlen, and commentators Laura Loomer, Milo Yiannopoulos and Paul Joseph Watson. So, it’s “dangerous” voices who are being banned. Can we expect a ban on those promoting communism or abortion? Likely not.
Now more than ever, freedom lovers should start demanding that the Silicon Valley tyrants, who have virtual monopolies, we treated by legislation as public utilities that are compelled to serve ALL customers, without discrimination, in this case, on the basis of their controversial views.
Was Facebook founder and head Mark Zukerberg, a prominent Jew, just obeying the directive set out in a totalitarian demand made by Israeli Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon this week? The Jerusalem Post (April 30, 2019) reported: ‘The only way to stop antisemitism is to criminalize it, Israel’s Ambassador to the UN Danny Danon told reporters in New York on Monday. ‘The time for talking and having a conversation is over,’ Danon said. ‘What Israel and the Jewish community around the world demand is action – and now.’ Danon …   said that those who engage in antI-semitism ‘must be punished. Whether it is here at the UN [or by] political leaders, editors, policy pundits or college professors, it does not matter. Antisemitism should have no place in our society,” he continued. “Until it becomes criminal, this bigotry will persist; it will fester.'” So, criticism of Israel or Jews should be criminalized. It just so happens that many of the recently banned people have been critical of Jews. The others, interestingly, are critical of radical Moslems (Laura Loomer).

To his credit, President Donald Trump rallied to the defence of freedom of speech and these freethinkers: ” On Twitter Friday night (May 3, 2019), President Donald Trump railed against ‘the censorship of AMERICAN CITIZENS on social media platforms” and complained that conservatives were being unfairly pushed off social media.” (The Slatest, May 4, 2019). If the seven banned people were being silenced for “dangerous ideas, ? he asked, “.“Why is @nytimes, @washingtonpost, @CNN, @MSNBC allowed to be on Twitter & Facebook.  “Much of what they do is FAKE NEWS!”

Louis Farrakhan, Alex Jones and other ‘dangerous’ voices banned by Facebook and Instagram

Jones and his media outlet InfoWars had previously been banned from Facebook (FB) in August 2018, but had maintained a presence on Instagram, which is owned by Facebook. On Thursday, Jones and InfoWars will be barred from Instagram as well.
Other people banned on Thursday included Paul Nehlen, an anti-Semite who unsuccessfully ran for Congress in 2016 and 2018, and fringe right-wing media personalities Laura Loomer, Milo Yiannopoulos and Paul Joseph Watson.
“We’ve always banned individuals or organizations that promote or engage in violence and hate, regardless of ideology,” a Facebook spokesperson said in a statement provided to CNN Business. “The process for evaluating potential violators is extensive and it is what led us to our decision to remove these accounts today.”
A Facebook spokesperson told CNN Business the company goes through a lengthy process and takes into consideration a number of factors before determining an individual to be “dangerous.”
The Facebook spokesperson said such factors include whether the person or organization has ever called for violence against individuals based on race, ethnicity, or national origin; whether the person has been identified with a hateful ideology; whether they use hate speech or slurs in their about section on their social media profiles; and whether they have had pages or groups removed from Facebook for violating hate speech rules.
In some instances, when Facebook bans an individual or organization, it also restricts others from expressing praise or support for them on its platforms, the spokesperson said, adding that the company continues to view such action as the correct approach. That policy may not apply to any or all of the people banned Thursday, however.
The spokesperson added that Facebook will remove groups, pages and accounts created to represent the banned individuals when it knows the individual is participating in the effort.
Some of the individuals who were designated as “dangerous” responded to the ban on their accounts in the brief period between when Facebook announced the ban and when Facebook scrubbed the accounts.
Loomer, for instance, denied in an Instagram post that she ever violated the company’s terms of service. Loomer asked people to follow her on an different platform, adding, “Looks like you guys will probably never hear from me again.”
Yiannopoulos also published a final post on Instagram.
Watson used Twitter, from which he has not been banned, to write, “In an authoritarian society controlled by a handful of Silicon Valley giants, all dissent must be purged.”
Farrakhan, Jones and Nehlen did not immediately respond to requests for comment.
Some critics questioned why Facebook banned the accounts in one fell swoop on Thursday, instead of taking action against the accounts at the time they were determined to have been in violation of the company’s rules. These critics suggested the announcement was designed to generate positive publicity for the company, which has a history of being slow to act on such matters and of only taking action after facing pressure from the public.
It is possible it simply took Facebook a significant amount of time to reach a decision on whether to label the individuals as “dangerous.” In late March, Business Insider obtained emails showing Facebook executives in an intense debate over whether or not to take action like this against Jones.
At the time, a Facebook spokesperson told CNN Business, “As this email correspondence shows, we continually monitor and review whether people are involved in organized hate on our platform. We’ve already taken down InfoWars’ Facebook Page, but Alex Jones has a network of presences online and we are evaluating how to appropriately enforce our policies against him as an individual. We’re committed to being diligent and will share an update when that process has run its course.”

PayPal Blacklists United Constitutional Patriots After They Helped Catch Illegal Aliens Invading U.S.

The United Constitutional Patriots, who made headlines on Thursday for helping catch hundreds of illegal aliens invading America through our southern border, announced Friday on Facebook they were banned by PayPal and all their funds have been frozen for 180 days.

The United Constitutional Patriots said they wanted to thank everyone who donated to their “Border Ops mission” but they “can no longer accept payments” through PayPal as “they have permanently suspended our account.”

They said PayPal is holding $1,300 in donations “for 180 days.”

Facebook bans British anti-immigrant groups including EDL, BNP and Britain First: Anti-White Purge Continues

[Facebook continues its anti-White purge. Nationalists are being deplatformed at an insane rate. People who support free speech must insist that social media near monopolies like Facebook, You Tube, PayPal, etc. be treated as public utilities and COMPELLED to serve all people not directly engaged in proven criminal activities. The latest Zuckerberg rampage in political censorship pure and simple. Communists of all sort, who have over 100-million corpses on their record, are, of course still welcome on this minority tyrant’s site.]

Facebook bans British anti-immigrant groups including EDL, BNP and Britain First
Facebook has banned 12 high-profile, anti-immigrant British organizations and individuals including the English Defence League, the British National Party, Britain First and Jayda Fransen.

The silicon valley company said it took the decision because it bans users who “proclaim a violent or hateful mission or are engaged in acts of hate or violence.”

“Individuals and organisations who spread hate, or attack or call for the exclusion of others on the basis of who they are, have no place on Facebook,” it said in a statement.

The following organizations and people are now prohibited from the site: The British National Party and Nick Griffin, Britain First and Paul Golding and Jayda Fransen, English Defence League and Paul Ray, Knights Templar International and Jim Dowson, National Front and Tony Martin, and Jack Renshaw.

ALSO ON RT.COMTommy Robinson banned from Facebook, Instagram over ‘hate speech’They were all outlawed under Facebook’s ‘Dangerous Individuals & Organisations policy’. They will no longer be allowed a presence on Facebook or Instagram and posts and other content which expresses praise or support for them will also be banned.

“Our work against organised hate is ongoing and we will continue to review individuals, organisations, pages, groups and content against our Community Standards,” the statement added.

The Knights Templar International said it was “horrified” by the ban, and that it was investigating legal options. “Facebook has deemed our Christian organisation as dangerous and de-platformed us despite never being charged, let alone found guilty of any crime whatsoever,” it said in a statement. “This is a development that would have made the Soviets blush.”

In February the social media giant banned EDL founder Tommy Robinson from its platforms saying the prominent anti-immigration activist repeatedly breached its policies on Hate speech.

Facebook bans ‘white nationalism’ content

Facebook bans ‘white nationalism’ content

[Here Facebook declares total war on White Pride.]

AP

In the wake of the New Zealand shootings, Facebook has announced it will no longer allow “praise, support and representation of white nationalism and separatism” on its site.

News Corp Australia NetworkMarch 28, 20196:32am

Facebook is extending its ban on hate speech to prohibit the promotion and support of white nationalism and white separatism.

The company previously allowed such material even though it has long banned white supremacists. The social network said that it didn’t apply the ban previously to expressions of white nationalism because it linked such expressions with broader concepts of nationalism and separatism — such as American pride or Basque separatism (which are still allowed).

But civil rights groups and academics called this view “misguided” and have long pressured the company to change its stance. Facebook said it concluded after months of “conversations” with them that white nationalism and separatism cannot be meaningfully separated from white supremacy and organised hate groups.

Critics have “raised these issues to the highest levels at Facebook (and held) a number of working meetings with their staff as we’ve tried to get them to the right place,” said Kristen Clarke, president and executive director of the Lawyers’ Committee for Civil Rights Under Law, a Washington, DC-based legal advocacy group.

“This is long overdue as the country continues to deal with the grip of hate and the increase in violent white supremacy,” she said. “We need the tech sector to do its part to combat these efforts.”

Though Facebook said it has been working on the change for three months, it comes less than two weeks after Facebook received widespread criticism after the suspect in shootings at two New Zealand mosques that killed 49 people was able to broadcast the massacre on live video on Facebook.

As part of the change, people who search for terms associated with white supremacy will be directed to a group called Life After Hate, which was founded by former extremists who want to help people leave the violent far-right. Ms Clarke called the idea that white supremacism is different than white nationalism or white separatism a misguided “distinction without a difference.”

She said the New Zealand attack was a “powerful reminder about why we need the tech sector to do more to stamp out the conduct and activity of violent white supremacists.”

Rush Limbaugh and Glenn Reynolds to POTUS TRUMP: Break Up Tech Monopolies – Or Lose in 2020

Jim Hoft by Jim Hoft November 19, 2018 Gateway Pundit

alt
Conservative author and radio host Rush Limbaugh promoted the latest article by conservative law professor and writer Glenn Reynolds in USA Today on Monday.
Glenn Reynolds called on Trump on Monday to breakup the tech monopolies like his predecessor Teddy Roosevelt did back in the early 1900s.
Rush discussed this article on Monday:
RUSH: Glenn Harlan Reynolds, who’s a friend and a law professor at the University of Tennessee, has a column out today in USA Today saying that Trump has got… Forget prison or anything else. If Trump doesn’t get a handle on the monopolies that exist now — Facebook, Google, Netflix, and (What’s the other one?) Amazon, the social media titans — that if this not gotten handle on, we don’t have a prayer because they have monopolized social media, and in the process of monopolizing it and mass media, they are excluding anything and everybody conservative.
So Glenn’s piece today is suggesting that Trump needs to do his own version of Teddy Roosevelt and bust ’em up. Teddy Roosevelt busted up the trusts, among them Standard Oil, the Rockefeller family, and J. P. Morgan, who was on the verge (chuckles) of owning the United States financial markets. Do you know back in the late 1800s, early 1900s, when the federal government needed money, they went to J. P. Morgan to borrow it? Before there was a tax code, before there was a tax system, they went to J. P. Morgan to get money. Well, J. P. Morgan was one of the trusts that Teddy Roosevelt busted up.
I’ll tell you, Glenn Reynolds makes a pervasive case in this — and even if he hadn’t made it, it’s a scary thing. You know, I don’t like monopolies, and I really hate government intervention, but this social media stuff is getting totally out of hand, especially, folks… There’s now polling data. I forget where a term. I’ll find it just a second. It’s a credible polling unit. Do you know that 42% of the American people believe that the Russians meddled with votes in 2016? This has been one of the most successful hoaxes that has ever been run in politics.
This has been one of the most successful disinformation campaigns ever, the fact that the Russians and Trump colluded to steal the election. There isn’t any evidence! In fact, in announcing the latest series of indictments, Rod Rosenstein, the deputy attorney general, made it clear that in none of the indictment that Mueller has announced is there any allegation or evidence that a single vote was tampered with! Yet you read newspaper accounts of this or watch cable news accounts, they don’t even mention that that has been acknowledged and admitted by the government.
They continue with the myth that not only did Trump and the Russians collude, but the Russians tampered with vote totals. It did not happen, and yet 42% of the American people believe it largely because of the media — and social media, which is one of the biggest promotional groundswells for that point of view. You talk about misinformation and disinformation? This is profound. There is no evidence that any of this happened!
Read the rest here.
As The Gateway Pundit reported earlier…..
On Tuesday night, after the votes were counted, Democrats took control of the US House of Representatives.
Wealthy suburban voters and women are being credited for the win.
At least 35 Republican lawmakers lost their seats last Tuesday night.

Democrats have a huge advantage over Republicans with their partners in the media complex, Hollywood, and academia.

And, unlike 2016, this year Democrats can also can give a huge amount of credit to Tech giants Google, Facebook and Twitter.

Suburban voters and women no longer were reading conservative articles on Facebook.  Facebook eliminated at least 1.5 billion links to conservative articles since 2017.  If you add additional websites like The Gateway Pundit, Infowars, Young Cons, Right Wing News, etc. the number tops 2 billion easy.  And it likely made a difference on Tuesday night.  80% of women age 18-49 have Facebook accounts.  These are the women who get their news from Facebook.  Facebook knows this and eliminated conservative content on their platform so there would be no repeat of 2016.
alt
It’s no secret that the Silicon Valley tech giants discriminate against conservatives and conservative content.
In August President Trump warned Google about it’s biased practices against conservatives and conservative content in their search feature.
Facebook has been shutting down traffic to conservative websites since the 2016 election.
The Gateway Pundit recently spoke with two of the top conservative publishers in America.
Floyd Brown is a conservative author, speaker and media commentator. In 2008 Floyd launched Western Journal which quickly became one of the top conservative websites in America. By 2016 Floyd’s organization of Western Journal and other conservative websites under his umbrella had more than a billion page views. Since 2016 Floyd’s organization lost 75% of its Facebook traffic.
Likewise, we spoke with Jared Vallorani from Klicked Media. Jared traveled to Washington DC with The Gateway Pundit and website owners at 100%FedUp in June to discuss Facebook targeting against conservative publishers with Republican lawmakers. Jared told The Gateway Pundit his organization Klicked Media, which hosts over 60 conservative websites, lost 400 million page views from Facebook in the last six months if you compare the traffic to a year ago.  Jared said, “We lost 70% to 80% of our traffic if you compare January to May 2017 vs Jan to May 2018.”

If you combine the total number of page-views lost by just these two conservative online publishers you are looking at a loss of over 1.5 billion page-views from Facebook in one year.

These are numbers from just two of the top conservative publishers in America.  This does not include the thousands of other conservative publishers across the country who lost all of their traffic coming from Facebook.  Here at The Gateway Pundit our Facebook traffic has been effectively eliminated after we were ranked as the 4th most influential conservative publisher in the 2016 election.
The fact that Facebook is targeting conservative publishers should not be a surprise to Gateway Pundit readers.
We have been reporting on this for several months now. In July we released a study where we looked at several top conservative websites and discovered that the publishers had lost an average of 93% of their Facebook traffic.
This is a bloodbath.  Facebook has wiped out conservative content to American subscribers.

This influence map below by Columbia Journalism Review shows the top influencers during the 2016 election.

alt

And here is that same map showing the conservative publishers who have been targeted by Facebook since 2017.

alt
Facebook has eliminated content from a vast majority of top conservative publishers since 2017.

In 2016 suburban voters and women would check their Facebook pages and get conservative news.  That is no longer the case.  And on Tuesday these voters chose Democrats.

Facebook has wiped out conservative publishers. Americans will no longer see articles from conservative websites even if you follow them. Facebook took advertising dollars from all of these businesses and then changed their business plan after the 2016 election.
Facebook wants to pretend this was not a political decision. Yet, several top liberal activist groups: Media Matters, Share Blue, CREW and American Bridge, made it a priority in early 2017 to work with the liberal tech giants to undermine President Trump and ensure that liberals gain control of Congress and the presidency in 2020.
The tech giants did just that.

Justice Facebook Style — Punishment Clear, Accusations Hazy

Justice Facebook Style — Punishment Clear, Accusations Hazy
Globalists, up until 20 years ago, dominated and controlled most mass media in North America and Britain. They could suppress or demonize free speech supporters, White nationalists and Revisionists. Their soap opera news, which wasn’t news, but approved “good guys” versus “bad guys” (us) misinformed the public as the media sought to shape or make news, not report it
Then, came the Internet and all sorts of new features — Facebook, Twitter, You Tube. Suddenly, all sorts of voices could be heard. The control freaks of anti-White globalism are still trying to shove the genie back into the bottle.
Here’s just a tiny example of the censorship Zuckerberg (is he Irish?) at Facebook invokes to try to hinder free expression.
Free speech supporters should start demanding measures, such as:
1. Media like Facebook that possess a virtual monopoly should be treated like public utilities. They must serve everyone, without restriction, UNLESS as actual crime is being committed on line.
2. Creative supporters of free speech must develop  their own platforms and technology to circumvent the censorship. This is what GAB has done to counter thought control at Twitter.
