A King city man and his wife face charges for breaking the federally mandated COVID-19 quarantine to go to anti-mask rallies in downtown Toronto.
Officers confirm 37-year-old Christopher Saccoccia, who goes by ‘Chris Sky’, and his 34-year-old wife Jennifer arrived at Pearson airport on September 20 after travelling outside the country.
They were supposed to self-isolate for 14 days but instead, went to the anti-mask events at Yonge and Dundas Square over the past two Saturdays, with around 500 unmasked people in attendance at each rally.
Video shared on social media shows Sky speaking at the rallies against the mask measures and other COVID-19 related restrictions.
“Toronto Police Chief James Ramer has confirmed that COVID-19 is a public safety risk,” Toronto police said in a release.
“All related laws are being enforced in partnership with municipal, provincial and federal authorities.”
The couple is scheduled to appear in court via video at Old City Hall on November 12th.
