Tory Leadership Candidate Lewis Criticizes Taxpayer Funded \u2018Anti-Hate Toolkit\u2019 as \u2018Shockingly Hateful\u2019<\/h1>\n\n\n\n

A federally-funded toolkit touted by the government as providing \u201canti-racism education\u201d in Canadian schools is being called \u201cshockingly hateful\u201d by Conservative MP and party leadership hopeful Leslyn Lewis<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cOur tax dollars shouldn\u2019t be used to bring a hateful woke agenda into our classrooms,\u201d Lewis said of the toolkit on Twitter on July 6.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cChildren should be taught our history, the good & the bad. Our children should be raised to be ready for any & every conversation, not taught how to cancel each-other.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The toolkit<\/a>, \u201cConfronting and Preventing Hate in Canadian Schools,\u201d produced by the Canadian Anti-Hate Network was launched by Minister of Housing and Diversity, Ahmed Hussen, on June 29.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis toolkit will provide a comprehensive anti-racism education program to help equip educators, parents and communities better identify, confront and prevent hate in schools across Canada,\u201d said a June 29 news release from Canadian Heritage. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The toolkit classifies the former flag of Canada until 1965, the Red Ensign, as a \u201chate-promoting symbol.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cIts usage denotes a desire to return to Canada\u2019s demographics before 1967, when it was predominantly white,\u201d says the toolkit. \u201cIts usage in modern times is an indicator of hate-promoting beliefs.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The document presents scenarios where an educator could face a \u201cbigoted ideology\u201d in the classroom and suggests how to respond, such as \u201cA student argues in favour of a problematic politician or policy (eg. Trump\u2019s wall) in classroom discussion.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cTrump\u2019s wall\u201d refers to former U.S. President Donald Trump\u2019s initiative to construct a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border in an effort to combat illegal immigration between the countries.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Another scenario presented in the toolkit involves a student asking why there are no \u201cstraight pride parades\u201d or one that uses the Hitler salute in class.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Suggested approaches include telling the student the behaviour is unacceptable, telling the school administration, or meeting with the parents.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u2018Infiltrate\u2019 Conservative Party<\/h2>\n\n\n\n

The toolkit also says that the alt-right white nationalists \u201csometimes attempt to infiltrate mainstream Conservative political parties to influence change.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYou paid for children to be told in school that mentioning our historic flag is racist, for their teachers to be told that if kids mention a \u2018problem politician\u2019 they must be confronted immediately, and that our country\u2019s founding political party has been infiltrated by racists and white supremacists,\u201d Lewis wrote<\/a> on her website while referring to the literature as \u201ca shockingly hateful toolkit.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In the post, Lewis pointed to her good showing among western provinces during the last Conservative Party leadership race as evidence of western Canada\u2019s rejection of racism, saying they \u201cvoted to have a black woman become their leader.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cYes, I have encountered racists in my life. But believe me: racists have no particular party affiliation,\u201d Lewis wrote.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cBut the woke left needs a boogeyman,\u201d she added. \u201cThey can\u2019t handle a society that wrestles with history, both the good and the bad.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The government provided $268,400 to the Canadian Anti-Hate Network (CAHN) to help with its project.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThe increase of hate-motivated groups and ideologies is a disturbing reality in our country that we have a responsibility to address,\u201d Hussen said in a statement announcing the launch of the toolkit.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThat is why our government is supporting the efforts of organizations like the Canadian Anti-Hate Network to create real solutions to confront and prevent hate.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The chair of CAHN, Bernie Farber, said in the statement the toolkit will \u201cprevent children from being groomed and recruited by white supremacists.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
