Ontario court freezes Freedom Convoy\u2019s access to GiveSendGo donations <\/h1>\n\n\n\n

The Ontario government has secured a court order to freeze access to millions of dollars donated to the Freedom Convoy through crowdfunding platform GiveSendGo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

Premier Doug Ford\u2019s office said in a statement Thursday evening that the attorney general brought an application to the Ontario Superior Court of Justice under Section 490.8 of the Criminal Code of Canada. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

This application, said the premier\u2019s office, sought to prohibit people from \u201cdisposing of, or otherwise dealing with\u201d donations made through the Freedom Convoy and Adopt-A-Trucker pages on GiveSendGo. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis afternoon, the order was issued,\u201d said<\/a> the premier\u2019s office in a statement on Thursday. \u201cIt binds any and all parties with possession or control over these donations.\u201d <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Freedom Convoy\u2019s organizers and lawyer were not immediately available for comment although spokesperson Benjamin Dichter did joke about the GiveSendGo being frozen in a tweet.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

\u201cThis is good for #bitcoin,\u201d he said<\/a>. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

A crowdfunding page for the Freedom Convoy was set up<\/a> on GiveSendGo after GoFundMe canceled the original fundraiser. <\/p>\n\n\n\n

The GiveSendGo page had raised<\/a> $8.5 million US as of Thursday, the Freedom Convoy\u2019s 19th day.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
