Austrian FP\u00d6 Member of Parliament Michael Schnedlitz administered a \nCOVID-19 PCR test to the beverage Coca Cola in the plenum before his \ncolleagues. The popular drink tested positive for the COVID-19 \ncoronavirus.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He said he was performing the test live before parliament: \u201cso you can see how worthless and misguided these mass tests are.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

He continued: \u201cThe evidence is overwhelming, starting with the \nabsolutely absurd mass tests that are currently being carried out, which\n are nothing more than a large-scale redistribution of tens of millions \nof euros in tax money from the population\u2026it can\u2019t go on like this.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Schnedlitz later wrote on his Facebook page: \u201cThe coronavirus mass \ntests are worthless! This was also shown by a simple experiment in \nparliament, in which cola got a positive result! But this government \nspends tens of millions in taxpayers\u2019 money for precisely these tests.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

It is recommended not to drink acidic beverages like cola an hour \nbefore this test, which some have suggested could possibly explain how \nhe had the courage to take such a gamble. The liquids that keep the pH \nvalue constant in a certain range are called buffers. They say that is \nexactly what the FP\u00d6 politician avoided. That is why the acids contained\n in the cola reacted with the antibody that is actually supposed to \ncatch the virus proteins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

The Welt<\/em> quoted a Dialab company manager who produces the \ntest used by the MP: \u201cAny pregnancy test would have been positive. \nBefore the honorable Member makes such embarrassing statements public, \nit might make sense to deal with the chemistry just a little \nbeforehand.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Remaining cola in the mouth would not have this effect, the buffer \nprevents that. However, if a sample is taken from the mouth, experts \nadvise not to eat, drink, or smoke for an hour, mainly because the virus\n concentration in the mouth can drop if it is rinsed again beforehand. \nHowever, according to the package insert, the Dialab rapid test should \nbe done with nose samples anyway, where Coca Cola isn\u2019t.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

In May, Tanzania suspended<\/a> the head of its national health<\/a>\n laboratory in charge of testing coronavirus and ordered an \ninvestigation, after President John Magufuli questioned the tests\u2019 \naccuracy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Magufuli said the imported test kits were faulty as they had returned\n positive results on a goat and a pawpaw fruit \u2014 among several non-human\n samples submitted for testing, with technicians left deliberately \nunaware of their origins.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
