Unsubscribe anytime or <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/contact\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">contact us<\/a> for details.\n    \n\n    \n        \n    \n\n                \n            \n        \n    \n\n    \n        \n            \n                <\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The owner of Toronto&#8217;s popular <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/restaurants\/adamson-barbecue-toronto\/\">Adamson Barbecue<\/a> restaurant is kicking up COVID-related controversy <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/eat_drink\/2020\/04\/toronto-restaurant-apologizes-after-being-called-out-offensive-comments\/\">once again<\/a>\n this week in what might be his boldest (and riskiest) move to date: \nOpening up for indoor dining while the region is under lockdown.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Hello Adamson Barbecue fans!&#8221; said outspoken restaurateur Adam Skelly <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CH84LiZHWIH\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in a video <\/a>posted to his brand&#8217;s Instagram account Monday evening.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m coming on here today to let you guys know that our Etobicoke \nlocation, tomorrow \u2014 that&#8217;s Tuesday \u2014 will be opening for in-restaurant \ndining against provincial orders at eleven o&#8217;clock.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Adamson Barbecue Etobicoke, which opened as <a href=\"https:\/\/adamsonbarbecue.com\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">the brand&#8217;s third location<\/a>\n earlier this fall, is expected to resume full operations today at 11:00\n a.m. at 7 Queen Elizabeth Blvd., just off Royal York Road near the \nGardiner Expressway.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This is, of course, forbidden by both the City of Toronto and the provincial government, which moved Toronto and Peel into the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/city\/2020\/11\/toronto-lockdown-what-that-means\/\">&#8220;grey zone&#8221; lockdown level<\/a> of its new <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/admin\/articles\/article\/103907\/change\/#content_data\">COVID-19 restriction framework <\/a>system on Monday.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe allowfullscreen=\"true\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/index.html?dnt=false&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-0&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1331042694551007234&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.blogto.com%2Feat_drink%2F2020%2F11%2Ftoronto-restaurant-reopen-indoor-dining-defy-lockdown%2F&amp;siteScreenName=blogTO&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&amp;width=550px\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Any restaurant found to be in contravention of public health orders currently faces fines of <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/city\/2020\/11\/how-much-you-can-be-fined-breaking-toronto-new-covid-rules\/\">up to $25,000 per day<\/a>\n from the municipal government alone. Individuals, such as Skelly, would\n be personally liable for another $5,000 per day on top of that under \nCity rules.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Bolstered by the support of his fans, Skelly doesn&#8217;t seem to care.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;For those of you who have eyes to see why I&#8217;m doing this, thank you \nguys so much. Thank you for the messages of support, thank you for \nfilling out my little polls, thank you for letting me know that we have \npeople in our corner,&#8221; he said <a href=\"https:\/\/www.instagram.com\/p\/CH84LiZHWIH\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">in his Instagram dispatch <\/a>Monday night.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;This is a risky move and you guys gave me the gas to do this, so I just want to thank you guys so much.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Judging by the number of views on his video \u2014 more than 100,000 in \nless than 24 hours \u2014 and the hundreds of comments, Skelly does indeed \nhave many supporters \u2014 as well as detractors.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure><iframe allowfullscreen=\"true\" class=\"\" src=\"https:\/\/platform.twitter.com\/embed\/index.html?dnt=false&amp;embedId=twitter-widget-1&amp;frame=false&amp;hideCard=false&amp;hideThread=false&amp;id=1331031090614726657&amp;lang=en&amp;origin=https%3A%2F%2Fwww.blogto.com%2Feat_drink%2F2020%2F11%2Ftoronto-restaurant-reopen-indoor-dining-defy-lockdown%2F&amp;siteScreenName=blogTO&amp;theme=light&amp;widgetsVersion=ed20a2b%3A1601588405575&amp;width=550px\"><\/iframe><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>The controversial businessman, who opened the first of his <a href=\"https:\/\/www.blogto.com\/restaurants\/adamson-barbecue-toronto\/\">wildly-popular Texas-style BBQ joints<\/a> in Leaside four years ago, explained in his video why he was taking such a bold stance.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;Top to bottom, this thing stinks \u2014 it reeks of corruption,&#8221; said \nSkelly of the lockdown, noting that he didn&#8217;t have enough time to lay \nout everything in detail.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;I&#8217;m going to start with just one point: We&#8217;re using PCR tests with a\n cycle threshold of over 40 to drive hysteria around case counts,&#8221; he \ncontinued.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;If you guys understand what&#8217;s going on with these PCR tests and \ntheir cycle thresholds, you know that they&#8217;re picking up all sorts of \nother stuff that&#8217;s not COVID \u2014 bacterial infections, other coronaviruses\n including the common cold, fragments from the flu shot&#8230; If you know \nthat, then you know we&#8217;re going to be about 2.5 per cent positivity rate\n until the end of spring.&#8221;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>&#8220;How many businesses \u2014 how many people \u2014 are going to lose everything?&#8221; said Skelly. &#8220;Enough is enough.&#8221;<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Eat &amp; Drink Lauren O&#8217;Neil Posted 5 minutes ago Report Inaccuracy A Toronto restaurant is reopening for indoor dining to defy lockdown orders Stay in the loop Sign up for our free email newsletter.
