BERLIN<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n Police \nforcibly broke up an anti-lockdown protest near German parliament on \nWednesday after thousands of protestors defied the police orders to \ndisperse.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Nearly 5,000 protestors, including right-wing extremists\n and anti-vaccination activists, gathered outside the landmark \nBrandenburg Gate, while lawmakers were discussing a new legislation for \nstricter coronavirus restrictions.<\/p>\n\n\n\n As protestors refused to wear \nmasks and keep a safe distance, the police told protest leaders to end \nthe demonstration peacefully and later used pepper spray and water \ncannons to disperse the demonstrators.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Berlin police said on \nTwitter that nearly 190 protestors were arrested on various charges, and\n nine police officers were injured during the protests. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The \nGerman lower house of parliament Bundestag approved on Wednesday \nproposed changes to the current infection protection law, which would \ngive the government stronger powers to impose anti-coronavirus \nrestrictions. <\/p>\n\n\n\n The new legislation was backed by 415 lawmakers, 236 voted against and eight abstained.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Germany has\n entered a month-long partial lockdown on Nov. 2 after a surge in new \ninfections and the government is considering to extend the measures \nbeyond the end of the month. <\/p>\n\n\n\n On Wednesday, the country reported \n17,561 new cases, and 305 more COVID-19 related deaths.
