<\/figure>\n\n\n\n By Staff Writer<\/a>September 16, 2020<\/a>29 Comments<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n The\n Victorian government will debate a new bill in the State Parliament \nthis week which would hand authorities the power to forcibly detain \n\u201cconspiracy theorists\u201d and people suspected to likely spread \ncoronavirus, such as anti-lockdown protesters and their close contacts.<\/p>\n\n\n\n If\n passed, the Omnibus (Emergency Measures) Bill will allow the state to \ndetain anyone they suspect of being \u201chigh risk\u201d or likely to negligently\n spread COVID-19, either if they have the virus or have been in contact \nwith an infected person.<\/p>\n\n\n\n According to The Age<\/a>,\n a state government spokesman said the rule could be applied to \n\u201cconspiracy theorists who refuse to self-isolate or severely \ndrug-affected or mentally impaired people who do not have the capacity \nto quarantine.\u201d<\/ins> Advertisement<\/p>\n\n\n\n Those detained could then be placed in quarantine facilities, such as hotels, where they can be monitored by authorities.<\/p>\n\n\n\n On\n Sunday police fined 200 people and made 74 arrests during an \nanti-lockdown protest in Melbourne.
