H&D<\/em> greatly regret to report the death of Dr Fredrick \nT\u00f6ben, the German-Australian revisionist historian. Dr T\u00f6ben died \nyesterday three weeks after his 76th birthday, having been seriously ill\n for the past two or three months.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Fredrick T\u00f6ben came to Australia from his German birthplace as a \nten-year-old boy when his parents emigrated. He studied at Victoria \nCollege of Wellington, New Zealand; Melbourne University; and Stuttgart \nUniversity.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In the late 1970s T\u00f6ben lived in Rhodesia towards the end of that \ncountry\u2019s struggle against Black Marxist revolutionaries. After a year \nteaching in Nigeria, he returned to Australia teaching at various \ninstitutions in the state of Victoria during the early 1980s.<\/p>\n\n\n\n T\u00f6ben\u2019s dismissal from his teaching post in 1985 led to a five-year \nlegal battle. He eventually won damages against the State of Victoria \nand relocated to Adelaide, South Australia, where he formed the Truth \nMission in 1994, becoming Adelaide Institute a year later.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This produced a series of \u2018Holocaust\u2019 revisionist publications, and \nled to T\u00f6ben being targeted by Jewish and \u2018anti-fascist\u2019 organisations \nworldwide, while he became part of an international network of \nrevisionists attending conferences sponsored by the Institute for Historical Review<\/a> (IHR), and later The Barnes Review<\/a><\/em>, serving on the latter\u2019s Board of Contributing Editors until his death<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In\n 1998 he was arrested in Germany under that country\u2019s notorious laws \nrestricting free research and discussion of historical topics<\/a>, spending seven months in prison.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In October 2000 the Australian Human Rights Commission ordered T\u00f6ben \nto remove parts of the Adelaide Institute\u2019s website, triggering years of\n appeals and efforts to enforce the judgment.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Eventually in 2009 T\u00f6ben was jailed for three months in Adelaide for contempt of court.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Three years earlier T\u00f6ben had travelled to Iran to speak at the Tehran International Conference to Review the Global Vision of the Holocaust<\/a>,\n promoted by then Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad. This event \nattracted worldwide publicity and intensified the targeting of T\u00f6ben and\n other participants.<\/p>\n\n\n\n In October 2008 while in transit at London\u2019s Heathrow Airport, T\u00f6ben \nwas seized from his plane and served with an international arrest \nwarrant issued at the request of German authorities who wanted to jail \nhim again for articles published on the Adelaide Institute website.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This was expected to be a rapid \u2018rubber-stamping\u2019 procedure, but soon after T\u00f6ben was taken into custody, Dr David Duke telephoned Lady Mich\u00e8le Renouf in London to alert her to the arrest<\/a>. Lady Renouf mobilised a specialist legal team of solicitor Kevin Lowry-Mullins<\/a>\n and barrister Ben Watson, resulting in a historic legal victory against\n the Federal Republic and their Crown Prosecution Service allies.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After a month in Brixton prison awaiting the London court\u2019s decision, T\u00f6ben was freed and returned to Australia.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Persecution by the usual suspects continued, and a legal action for \ncourt costs resulted in T\u00f6ben being declared bankrupt and having his \npassport confiscated in 2012.<\/p>\n\n\n\n While there was a short period in 2018-2019 when there were serious disagreements between Dr T\u00f6ben and H&D<\/em>,\n these differences were resolved long before his death.
