The Destruction of Stockwell Day<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

Be very clear:\nCanada is in the midst of an unthinking, hysterical cancel culture reminiscent\nof the insanity and destruction of Mao’s Red Guards. Active collaborators in\nthis Cultural Marxist<\/strong> insanity are\nmany  in businesses and government. There is a party line of approved victimhood\nfrom which no one may deviate. All that is missing is Mao’s Little Red Book<\/strong>. And let there\nbe no doubt, no one, no one is safe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

From corporate\ndirector, corporate advisor and CBC<\/strong>\ncommentator, former Alberta Treasurer and later Canadian Alliance Party Leader Stockwell Day, <\/strong>within 24 hours was\nout on the sidewalk — purged. Of course, no trial, no hearing, no due process.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“A\nformer Conservative cabinet minister resigned from both the Telus <\/strong>board of directors and a business\nlaw firm after comments he made on TV <\/strong>about\nracism in Canada. Stockwell Day<\/strong> was\non a CBC Power & Politics <\/strong>panel<\/a> Tuesday\ndiscussing Prime Minister Justin\nTrudeau\u2019s<\/strong> response to protests over the police killing of George Floyd<\/strong>, a black man in the U.S.<\/strong> Day said systemic racism was not\nan issue in Canada and compared people\u2019s experiences of racism here to him\nbeing mocked for wearing glasses as a child.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Wednesday\nafternoon, Telus <\/strong>released a statement<\/a> announcing it had accepted Day\u2019s resignation from the\nboard. ‘The views expressed by Mr. Day during yesterday\u2019s broadcast of Power & Politics<\/strong> are not reflective\nof the values and beliefs of our organization,’ Telus<\/strong> said in a statement. Day had been on the board since\n2011.” And what values would those be, pray tell. Making money? Clearly\nnot defending free speech or diversity of opinion. Mr. Day, incidentally, was\nelected by Telus <\/strong>shareholders. He\nmust have been put under intolerable pressure to resign.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

“Soon\nafter, Teresa Dufort<\/strong>, partner and CEO<\/strong> at McMillan LLP<\/strong>, released a statement<\/a> saying the law firm had accepted Day\u2019s resignation as\na strategic adviser. ‘At McMillan LLP<\/strong>,\nwe believe that systemic racism is real and that it can only be addressed when\neach of us \u2014 as individuals and organizations \u2014 commits to meaningful change,’\nshe said. ‘Yesterday, Stockwell Day<\/strong>\nmade comments during a televised interview that run counter to this view.’\u201d (Vancouver Sun<\/strong>, June 4, 2020) So,\nStockwell Day<\/strong>, who was representing\nhis own opinions, not McMillan<\/strong> or Telus<\/strong>, had deviated from the new party\nline of White Guilt. Does McMillan<\/strong>\nmean it too is actually racist? Is Teresa\nDufort<\/strong> prepared to give up her position to some worthy Negro or Indian? But\nStockwell must be punished.<\/p>\n\n\n\n

Later,\nthe CBC <\/strong>announced that Day had\nstepped down from his role as a commentator on Power & Politics,<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n

When\nasked about systemic racism, here’s what the former Reform Party MP<\/strong> actually said: “We have to recognize that our\nsystem is not perfect in Canada. Yes, there’s a few idiot racists hanging\naround but Canada is not a racist country and most Canadians are not racist.\nAnd our system, that always needs to be improved, is not systemically racist.\n… Should I have gone through school and been mocked because I had glasses and\nwas called four-eyes and because of the occupation of my parents?” Day\nasked. “Should I have been mocked for all that? No, of course not. But are\nCanadians largely and in majority racist? No, we are not.” (CBC<\/strong>, June 3, 2020) These comments were,\nof course, considered heresy.
