U.S. crude descends into negative territory in technical crash \u2014 but &#8216;nobody&#8217;s selling&#8217;<\/a>\n                <\/li><\/ul>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Article content<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>Susan\n Standfield, inspired by the Operation Gridlock movement south of the \nborder, decided to join a small anti-COVID restrictions protest on \nSunday afternoon.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standfield \u2014 who co-founded the Hope in the \nShadows calendar that raises money in the Downtown Eastside \u2014 said her \nhousehold income had dropped by 80 per cent since a state of emergency \nwas declared in British Columbia last month to try and curtail the \nspread of COVID-19 infection.<\/p>\n\n\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cI saw something going on in Ohio, and then D.C., with Operation Gridlock. So I thought let\u2019s go,\u201d said Standfield.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Operation\n Gridlock is a protest movement across the U.S. in which protestors \ndemand the governors of their states lift or loosen stay-at-home and \nother COVID-19 restrictions in the nation that has seen the most \nCOVID-19 deaths. On Sunday, there were protests in Arizona, Colorado, \nMontana and Washington.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The protest in Kitsilano on Sunday \nattracted about 25 people, carrying an array of of placards. Standfield,\n wearing a ball-cap saying Silenced, had a sign \u201cI don\u2019t want to be an \nunpaid teacher. No more lockdowns.\u201d<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Article content continued<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>The\n group was standing in close quarters and did not attract any positive \nreaction from passersby while Postmedia News was present.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image\"><img decoding=\"async\" src=\"https:\/\/postmediavancouversun2.files.wordpress.com\/2020\/04\/png0419nsocialprotest-05.jpg?quality=100&amp;strip=all&amp;w=564\" alt=\"A group protesting COVID-19 restrictions gathered in Kitsilano on Sunday. NICK PROCAYLO\/PNG<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<p>Standfield\n said she contacted the Vancouver Police Department two hours before the\n protest to let them know. This was the third anti-restrictions protest \nin Vancouver. Last Sunday\u2019s protest made use of the #endthelockdown tag \nin several of its placards.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The following day, B.C. Minister of Health Adrian Dix described the protesters as \u201cmarginal\u201d and asked that they be ignored.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>Standfield\n said several police officers escorted the protest group from Burrard \nand 1st Avenue, south to 4th, west to Yew Street, then north to \nCornwall.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Article content continued<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p>She\n believed countries like Sweden, South Korea and Belarus had done a \nbetter job than Canada and British Columbia with managing the COVID-19 \npandemic.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\u201cLots of countries are doing it more strategically, more\n surgically, protecting weak people, but keeping the economy going,\u201d \nStandfield said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As of April 18, there were 579 active cases of \nCOVID-19 in B.C., of whom 169 were recovering in hospital.
