THE CANADIAN PRESS\/Jacques Boissinot<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>SHARE<\/p>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td>301<\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><td><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n\n\n<table class=\"wp-block-table\"><tbody><tr><td><\/td><td><\/td><\/tr><\/tbody><\/table>\n\n\n\n<p>MONTREAL &#8212; \n\tActivist Jaggi Singh, who has been facing charges stemming from his \narrest at an anti-fascist protest held in 2017, walked out of Quebec \nCity court a free man on Wednesday after prosecutors announced they were\n incapable of proceeding with Singh&#8217;s trial in English.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\t<a href=\"https:\/\/www.journaldequebec.com\/2020\/01\/15\/entrave-a-la-justice-le-militant-jaggi-singh-acquitte-faute-davocat-qui-parle-anglais\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">According to Le Journal du Quebec<\/a>,\n Steve Marquis, the chief Crown prosecutor for Quebec City, told Judge \nPierre Bordeleau that neither he nor any of his available colleagues \nwere capable of presenting the prosecution&#8217;s arguments in English. \n(Singh, who is fluently bilingual, had requested a trial in English.)<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>\n\tMarquis &#8211; who told the judge that the original prosecutor in the case, \nwho could proceed in English, was on maternity leave &#8211; asked for a delay\n in the proceedings, which Bordeleau denied.
