The Senate in Canada will \nsoon be voting on Bill 202, a measure that criminalizes so-called \nconversion therapy for young people to accept their born gender. It \nwould make doctors, psychologists, counselors, psychiatrists, and \npastors, as well as the person who schedules the appointment, in \nviolation of the criminal code.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
“That psychologist, if they counsel that \nchild that this is something that child will grow out of, or if they \ncounsel the child that biologically that child is either male or female;\n they are in the correct body — that would be an offense under the \nact,” explains Jay Cameron, litigation manager at the Justice Centre for Constitutional Freedoms<\/a>.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And parents would not be able to seek help for their children.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \n \t\tCameron\n \t\t\n<\/p>\n\n\n\n “It deprives parents of the statistically \nmost successful means of treating gender dysphoria; it’s the most \nsuccessful way to treat gender dysphoria because gradually a person \nbecomes comfortable in the body they are in,” Cameron submits. “They \ncome to recognize I am a girl<\/em> or I am a boy<\/em>, and they stop being uncomfortable, and they go on and they live the rest of their life.”<\/p>\n\n\n\n But under Bill 202, there is only one \nchoice left for parents and counselors, and that is to affirm the young \nperson’s gender confusion, provide hormone treatments and surgery to \ntransition to the opposite gender — which is impossible, even with \nhormone and surgery treatment.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" A criminal offense to affirm actual gender?
