Germany to Force Internet Providers to Hand Over Data, Passwords of People Accused of \u201cHate Speech\u201d December 21, 2019 <\/strong>https:\/\/www.breitbart.com\/europe\/2019\/12\/21\/germany-to-force-internet-providers-to-hand-over-data-of-those-accused-of-hate-speech\/<\/a><\/p>\n\n\n\n Angela Merkel\u2019s government is \npreparing a new bill that will force Internet Service Providers (ISPs) to hand \nover data, including passwords, of those accused of engaging in \u201chate speech\u201d \nonline. Minister of Justice Christine Lambrecht, a member of \nthe Social Democrats (SPD), is preparing the bill, which will force service \nproviders, email hosts, online retailers, and others to give the government the \nusernames, passwords, IP addresses, and more of suspects, MDR reports<\/a>. Lambrecht was slammed by many over the proposal, \nwith Hamburg\u2019s data protection officer Johannes \nCaspar<\/a> calling it an attack on privacy.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cThe fight against the ugly phenomena of \nright-wing extremism and hate crime apparently acts as a door opener for a \ncomprehensive expansion of state control powers,\u201d he warned.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The German minister defended herself and the bill, \nclaiming that the passwords and data would only be requested as part of a court \norder and only in serious cases.<\/p>\n\n\n\n \u201cIt is not a question of asking for passwords en \nmasse, it is a completely wrong representation and not at all the point and \npurpose,\u201d she said.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Populist Alternative for Germany (AfD) politician \nJoana Cotar said the proposed legislation was a \u201cfight against the free \nInternet\u201d and argued it would be used to silence citizens critical of the German \ngovernment. The far-left Die Linke agreed with the AfD, \naccusing the government of setting up a surveillance state.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Germany already has one of the most draconian sets \nof laws concerning \u201chate\u201d on social media, including approving legislation<\/a> imposing fines of up to 50 \nmillion euros on social media companies who do not remove hate content in what \nthe government considers a timely manner.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The German \nauthorities are also known to engage in large-scale raids of citizens accused of \nspreading \u201chate speech\u201d online, with a 2016 raid seeing 60 homes searched<\/a> across 14 \nstates.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":" [Don’t ever let them tell you Germany is part of the free world.
