Pattison did the same to me when I ran in Calgary Southeast in 2011. We must keep a careful record and, when times change, the corporate collaborators and enemies of free speech, including the Silicon Valley censors, will be made to pay. <\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em><strong>Toronto Star&#8217;<\/strong>s report suppresses the rather salient fact that Paula Fletcher, the one tossing around smears like &#8220;racist&#8221; and &#8220;hate&#8221; is a longtime member of the Communist Party of Canada!<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Wikipedia reports: &#8220;In\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\" title=\"Winnipeg, Manitoba\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Winnipeg,_Manitoba\">Winnipeg<\/a>, Fletcher worked as an educator in third world development, and became a community activist. In 1980, she ran for the\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\" title=\"Winnipeg School Board\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Winnipeg_School_Board\">Winnipeg School Board<\/a>\u00a0for Ward 2, in the city&#8217;s north end. In 1981, she was elected leader of the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" title=\"Communist Party of Canada (Manitoba)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Communist_Party_of_Canada_(Manitoba)\">Communist Party of Canada (Manitoba)<\/a>\u00a0and served as leader for five years.<sup id=\"cite_ref-4\" class=\"reference\"><a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Paula_Fletcher#cite_note-4\">[4]<\/a><\/sup>\u00a0She ran in the\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" title=\"1981 Manitoba general election\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1981_Manitoba_general_election\">1981<\/a>\u00a0and\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" title=\"\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/1986_Manitoba_general_election\">1986<\/a>\u00a0provincial elections in the Winnipeg riding of\u00a0<a class=\"mw-redirect\" style=\"color: #ff0000;\" title=\"Burrows (Manitoba riding)\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Burrows_(Manitoba_riding)\">Burrows<\/a>. She garnered 144 and 131 votes respectively, less than 2% of the popular vote. In the early 1980s, she sang with a group called Rank and File.<sup id=\"cite_ref-porter_1-2\" class=\"reference\"><\/sup><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>In 1986, Fletcher left the Communist Party and moved back to Toronto. In the 1990s, Fletcher worked at Toronto City Hall as executive assistant to [far leftist] city councillor\u00a0<a style=\"color: #ff0000;\" title=\"Dan Leckie\" href=\"https:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dan_Leckie\">Dan Leckie<\/a>.&#8221;<\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p><span style=\"color: #ff0000;\"><em>Leckie&#8217;s smear, using the weaponized words &#8220;hate&#8221; and &#8220;racism&#8221; are the desperate flailings of a lying and discredited order. Nowhere does the poster even mention race\u00a0<span style=\"font-weight: 300;\">&#8212; Paul Fromm, Director, CANADA FIRST IMMIGRATION REFORM COMMITTEE]<\/span><\/em><\/span><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<div class=\"byline-container\" data-lpos=\"article|author\">\n<div class=\"article__byline__font article__byline-container-author-withphoto\">\n<div class=\"article__img-container\"><img decoding=\"async\" class=\"author__img\" src=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/content\/dam\/thestar\/columnist_logos\/Kennedy_Brendan_logo2015.JPG.size.custom.crop.640x360.jpg\" alt=\"Brendan Kennedy\" \/><\/div>\n<div class=\"article__byline\"><span class=\"article__author-by\">By\u00a0<\/span><span class=\"article__author\"><span class=\"article__author-name\"><a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/authors.kennedy_brendan.html\">Brendan Kennedy<\/a><\/span><span class=\"article__author-credit\">Investigative Reporter<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<div class=\"article__time-container\"><span class=\"article__published-date\">Sun., Aug. 25, 2019<\/span><span class=\"article__readtime\"><i class=\"material-icons c-material-icon c-material-icon--article-readtime-clock\" aria-hidden=\"true\">timer<\/i>4\u00a0min. read<\/span><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div class=\"article-content-container\" data-lpos=\"article|body\">\n<div class=\"main-content\">\n<p>Controversial billboard advertisements\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.thestar.com\/news\/canada\/2019\/08\/23\/third-party-buys-billboard-to-promote-berniers-anti-mass-immigration-stance.html\">promoting the People\u2019s Party of Canada<\/a>\u00a0and its anti-immigration policies will be removed following \u201coverwhelming\u201d criticism, says the ad company that owns the billboards.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cI regret that the decision we made to allow the ad has been construed to suggest that I or anyone at Pattison Outdoor endorses the message of the advertiser,\u201d reads a statement attributed to Randy Otto, president of Pattison Outdoor Advertising, that was\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/twitter.com\/pattisonoutdoor\/status\/1165722253826416641?s=20\">posted to the company\u2019s social media accounts Sunday afternoon<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>The ads, which started popping up on billboards in cities across Canada late last week, feature a photo of party Leader Maxime Bernier, the slogan \u201cSay NO to mass immigration\u201d and a call to vote for Bernier\u2019s party. They were immediately criticized as promoting anti-immigrant rhetoric. At least one of the billboards is in Toronto, at Lake Shore Blvd. E and Carlaw Ave.<\/p>\n<div class=\"seo-media-query\"><\/div>\n<p>An online petition calling on Pattison to take down the \u201cracist\u201d ads had\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/www.leadnow.ca\/racist-billboard\/\">garnered more than 11,000 signatures<\/a>\u00a0as of Sunday afternoon.<\/p>\n<p>The billboards were paid for by a third-party advertiser called True North Strong &amp; Free Advertising Corp., which is run by Toronto mining executive Frank Smeenk, according to Elections Canada filings. Smeenk is the president and CEO of KWG Resources Inc.<\/p>\n<p>Calls to Smeenk\u2019s office on Sunday afternoon were not returned. Neither were emailed interview requests sent to KWG Resources.<\/p>\n<p>The phone number and business address associated with True North Strong &amp; Free Advertising are the same as those of KWG Resources. The address and phone number are included in small print at the bottom of the billboards, as required by Pattison\u2019s policy on \u201cadvocacy\u201d ads.<\/p>\n<div class=\"seo-media-query\"><\/div>\n<p>True North Strong &amp; Free Advertising Inc. filed interim financial returns with Elections Canada that show it spent $59,890 on billboards in \u201cselect cities in Canada\u201d and received $60,000 from Bassett &amp; Walker International Inc., a company that specializes in the international trade of protein products.<\/p>\n<div class=\"article-related-inline\" data-lpos=\"ymbii|1\">\n<div class=\"article-related-inline__body\"><\/div>\n<\/div>\n<div id=\"contentMiddleBreakPoint\"><\/div>\n<p>Last week, Smeenk declined to comment to The Canadian Press on the billboard beyond what appeared in the Elections Canada filing. Messages left at Bassett &amp; Walker by The Canadian Press were not returned.<\/p>\n<p>KWG Resources hosted a fundraiser for Bernier\u2019s Conservative party leadership campaign at its Toronto offices in June 2018, before Bernier launched his new party. In a\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/kwgresources.com\/kwg-to-host-maxime-bernier-post-provincial-election-mining-talk\/\">press release announcing the event<\/a>, Smeenk is quoted as saying: \u201cMaxime Bernier supports our vision that the development of the Ring of Fire (in northern Ontario) can be expedited by the needed transportation infrastructure being built and owned by a transportation authority.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>Toronto city Councillor Paula Fletcher, who represents the Toronto-Danforth ward where the billboard was recently erected, called the ad an example of \u201cdog-whistle politics\u201d and said Pattison should not have allowed it to go up in the first place.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cThese are really bordering on hate and racism and I don\u2019t think there\u2019s a place for that in outdoor advertising,\u201d she said in a phone interview.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Corporate Cowards at Pattison Signs Interfere With Election Advertising &#8212; Pull Immigration Reform Billboards Anti-immigration billboards promoting Bernier\u2019s party will be taken down, advertising company says [What snivelling corporate cowards!
