Sign the Petition to Ontario AG to Drop Anti-Christian “Hate” Charges Against Bill Whatcott<\/strong><\/span><\/p>\n

Yesterday, I travelled to Toronto to observe the court proceedings against Bill Whatcott, an Alberta man who has been charged with a \u201chate crime\u201d for passing out Christian literature to homosexuals at the Toronto \u201cGay Pride\u201d parade in 2016.<\/p>\n

Bill remarked,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m the first Christian arrested for putting out fliers at a gay parade.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

At the core of the Christian religion is the message that\u00a0all people are sinners, and that we must repent of our sins and trust in the sacrifice of the Lord Jesus Christ in order to be saved. Among the behaviours delineated as \u201csinful\u201d in sacred Scripture is homosexuality (or sodomy). (See Leviticus\u00a020:13<\/span><\/span>; Romans\u00a01:26<\/span><\/span>,27; 1 Corinthians 6:9-11).<\/p>\n

As a Christian, Bill felt compelled to present this message at the \u201cGay Pride\u201d parade,\u00a0out of concern and love for the people there.<\/strong>\u00a0For this, he was arrested.<\/p>\n

But you can’t call something “illegal” at the core of a world religion, unless you aim to condemn that whole religion.<\/strong><\/em><\/p>\n

At today\u2019s proceedings, Bill\u2019s lawyer asked the Crown to fully disclose its basis for pressing charges against Bill. In order to mount a credible defence, Bill\u2019s legal team needs to know\u00a0why the charges were laid, and what parties were involved in the accusation.<\/em><\/p>\n

The Crown agreed to provide disclosure, and the trial was set to resume\u00a0September 20th<\/span><\/span>.<\/strong><\/p>\n

About ten supporters and friends joined Bill in the courtroom, including pro-life heroine Linda Gibbons. Linda has spent over ten years in prison for her repeated witness in front of abortion clinics.<\/p>\n

Bill appreciates the support he has received thus far. He is also very grateful for our CitizenGO\u00a0petition<\/span>, which has been signed by over 40,000 people. Bill has faith in God to see him through this ordeal. He also believes that the more people speak out and stand up for free speech, the more likely it is that our new Ontario government will listen.<\/p>\n

However, it appears the cards are stacked against Bill.<\/p>\n

There is a great deal of prejudice against Bill in the public square. He has been labelled an\u00a0\u201canti-LGBTQ activist\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0and his literature has been decreed\u00a0\u201chomophobic\u201d<\/strong>\u00a0in most media outlets. Various politicians have denounced him.<\/p>\n

When dealing with other types of crimes, the media will usually say the accused is an \u201calleged\u201d criminal, having \u201callegedly done this or that\u201d. However, in the case of a Christian like Bill, they have already passed judgement, even before the court gets a chance.<\/p>\n

I asked Bill about the \u201canti-LGBTQ\u201d label placed upon him. He immediately\u00a0denied\u00a0it. He said,\u00a0\u201cI\u2019m opposed to sodomy, but I\u2019m not opposed to people.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

When asked if he would ever carry a sign that said, \u201cGod Hates Homomsexuals,\u201d he said he never would.\u00a0\u201cI won\u2019t carry that sign.\u201d<\/strong><\/p>\n

Bill expressed hope that Ontario\u2019s new attorney general, Caroline Mulroney (a Harvard graduate), will recognize the absurdity of these charges. He expects she will see that he has done nothing illegal, and that these charges are merely political \u2013 laid to further the former liberal government\u2019s agenda.<\/p>\n

Bill will now return to his home in Alberta to look for employment as he awaits his next court date. I will keep you up-to-date on events over the summer.<\/p>\n
