A week from today \u2013 on Nov. 28, 2017 \u2013 the world will mark\u00a0#GivingTuesday<\/strong>, an international movement that seeks to promote charitable giving, and where people from around the world donate to causes that are near and dear to their hearts.<\/p>\n

As the voice of Canada\u2019s grassroots Jewish community, B\u2019nai Brith Canada is proud to participate in this important initiative that embodies the Jewish concept of tzedakah. In a year marred with antisemitism and hatred targeting members of our community from both sides of the political spectrum, B\u2019nai Brith\u2019s ongoing advocacy efforts have been particularly vital, and it is only\u00a0through your support<\/strong>\u00a0that we can continue to fight for the human rights of all Canadians.<\/p>\n

a)\u00a0Fight against the purveyors of racism and hatred in Canada<\/strong>, from notorious white supremacist\u00a0Paul Fromm<\/a><\/span>\u00a0to\u00a0Your Ward News<\/em>\u00a0editor\u00a0James Sears<\/a><\/span>\u00a0to the\u00a0Vancouver imam<\/a><\/span>\u00a0who urged his congregants to finance Palestinian terrorism.<\/p>\n

b)\u00a0Refute the antisemitic boycott, divestment, and sanctions (BDS) movement<\/strong>, as we did through our nation-wide campaign in support of award-winning filmmaker Ian Halperin\u2019s\u00a0Wish You Weren\u2019t Here<\/a><\/span><\/em>, which exposes BDS and its supporters as antisemitic.<\/p>\n

c)\u00a0Support Jewish and pro-Israel students facing discrimination on campus<\/strong>. After three pro-Israel students at McGill University were targeted for their support of Jewish causes, B\u2019nai Brith\u00a0launched a petition<\/a>\u00a0<\/span>(which now has more than 5,350 signatures) demanding that McGill\u2019s administration investigate. McGill has since complied with this request.<\/p>\n

On #GivingTuesday,\u00a0please consider giving back\u00a0<\/strong>to your community \u2013 by supporting Canada\u2019s oldest self-funded and independent Jewish organization. WINNIPEG, MB<\/strong>\u00a0\u2013 A notorious white supremacist has been disallowed from holding a private meeting in a Winnipeg hotel room, B’nai Brith Canada has learned.<\/p>\n

The Hilton Winnipeg Airport Suites has been directed by its leadership to cancel a reservation by Paul Fromm, who had booked a room in the facility for a Wednesday night meeting.<\/p>\n

B\u2019nai Brith and concerned citizens in Manitoba had been advocating against the meeting after reports circulated that it had been planned.<\/p>\n

Fromm lost his teaching licence because of his association with white supremacist organizations. He also was penalized for endorsing racist and antisemitic organizations ranging from neo-Nazis to the KKK, including their Canadian counterparts.<\/p>\n

In a recent talk delivered in Vancouver, Fromm made antisemitic, homophobic, anti-First Nations, anti-Sikh, anti-black and anti-Muslim remarks. He also distributed material showcasing propaganda produced by Alfred Schaefer, a Holocaust denier who is facing trial in Germany on\u00a0criminal incitement\u00a0charges<\/a>.<\/p>\n

“B’nai Brith commends Hilton Hotels & Resorts for saying no to hatred,” said Michael Mostyn, Chief Executive Officer of B’nai Brith Canada. “There is no place for Fromm’s vile brand of hatred and antisemitism in Canadian society.”<\/p>\n

Fromm also has endorsed and distributed the newsletter\u00a0Your Ward News,\u00a0<\/em>a\u200en\u00a0<\/em>antisemitic and hateful publication that has been disseminated by publishers James Nicholas Sears and Lawrence (Leroy) St. Germaine. Sears and St. Germaine\u00a0were charged Wednesday<\/a>\u00a0with willfully promoting hatred against Jews and women.<\/p>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n<\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
