Toronto city council is set to discuss a call for a ban this week on the\u00a0Confederate<\/span>\u00a0battle\u00a0flag<\/span>\u00a0in public spaces stemming from a raucous confrontation during a festival in suburban Toronto\u00a0this\u00a0summer.<\/p>\n

Coun. Neethan Shan\u00a0of Ward 42 Scarborough-Rouge River\u00a0has introduced a motion that aims to clarify what symbols can be displayed during events in parks and other public spaces.<\/p>\n

He’s also calling for an outright ban on the\u00a0Confederate<\/span>\u00a0flag<\/span>,\u00a0in particular from city-owned spaces and at city-sponsored events.<\/p>\n
