The Dominion Society of Canada announced in May that it
would be hosting its first national conference, known as
\u201cDomCon,\u201d in the Hamilton area on Aug. 29. The group publicly
calls for the \u201cremigration\u201d \u2014 or mass deportation \u2014 of anyone
not descended from Anglo or French settlers of Canada. The
society’s website blames \u201cmass immigration\u201d for low wages, a
lack of jobs and housing, as well as overstretched healthcare and
education systems.<\/p>\n\n\n\n
On its website, the Dominion Society explicitly bases its
platform on the \u201cGreat Replacement\u201d theory, stating that \u201cnative
born Canadians are being replaced in our own domestic
workforce\u201d and calling for an \u201c11step plan\u201d to enforce \u201cthe
return of foreigners to their respective homelands.\u201d The group’s
literature targets specific demographics, writing that \u201cCanada is
not getting more `diverse,’ it’s getting more Indian.\u201d The
Canadian Anti-Hate Network has characterized the
organization as the political wing of a broader white nationalist
movement. \u2026
Lyndon George, executive director of the Hamilton Anti-
Racism Resource Centre (HARRC), [who is Black] told The
Spectator his team learned of the event in late May, spurring a
meeting with leaders from the Hamilton Centre for Civic
Inclusion and the Social Planning and Research Council of
Hamilton to create a \u201ccollaborative strategy.\u201d
George said part of that strategy includes local organizations
working with the city and nearby municipalities to ensure they
understand \u201csigns of hate,\u201d and to provide information to
restaurants and venues on how the group \u201cmay be operating and
disguising their bookings.\u201d
George also called on area politicians and economic development
departments to make it clear that Hamilton and the surrounding
regions are \u201cnot a welcoming environment for\u201d anti-immigration
and White nationalist groups. \u201cThis is not a group that you want
to welcome here,\u201d said George. \u201cBut this is not something that
