I knew the Finnish Supreme Court<\/strong> was about to deliver its verdict in P\u00e4ivi R\u00e4s\u00e4nen\u2019s<\/strong> case –<\/p>\n\n\n\n You remember<\/em> \u2026 the Finnish politician with whom we\u2019ve been standing for years now, dragged through years of investigations and trials simply for publicly expressing her Christian faith.<\/p>\n\n\n\n After everything she\u2019s been through\u2026 I truly believed this would finally be over – that she would be fully acquitted.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And then I heard the news:<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n They unanimously acquitted her for the 2019 tweet, where she simply quoted a Bible verse and questioned her church\u2019s support for a Pride event.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Thankfully, the court admitted this did not meet the threshold for \u201chate speech\u201d.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n But at the very same time, in a narrow 3\u20132 decision, P\u00e4ivi<\/strong> was convicted by the Supreme Court for a church pamphlet she wrote back in 2004!<\/p>\n\n\n\n It was a text explaining traditional Christian teaching on marriage and sexuality.<\/p>\n\n\n\n She was convicted for this on the grounds that it \u201cinsulted\u201d a particular group.<\/p>\n\n\n\n The court claims that by keeping this pamphlet available and sharing it again in recent years, it \u201cinsulted\u201d a group, even though they acknowledge there was no incitement to violence.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Now P\u00e4ivi faces heavy fines, and they\u2019ve ordered the pamphlet removed.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n It\u2019s unreal!<\/em><\/p>\n\n\n\n P\u00e4ivi, advised by ADF, who are leading her legal defence, is now considering an appeal to the European Court of Human Rights. But this is no longer just about her.<\/p>\n\n\n\n It affects you. It affects me. It affects every Christian, every free thinker, every person who still believes that freedom of speech means something in Europe.<\/p>\n\n\n\n You and I have stood alongside P\u00e4ivi from the very beginning. And if anything, this verdict only makes it clearer why that fight matters.<\/p>\n\n\n\n But today\u2026 I can\u2019t stop thinking about what this really means today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Because this isn\u2019t only about P\u00e4ivi.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is about whether, in a democratic Europe, you and I can still speak openly about our faith\u2026 or whether our Christian beliefs can be turned into something punishable.<\/p>\n\n\n\n This is about whether Christians are still free to speak in the public square, or whether that space has been closed.<\/p>\n\n\n\n And it should worry you like it worries me.<\/p>\n\n\n\n That\u2019s why I wanted to write to you today.<\/p>\n\n\n\n Not just to inform you but to remind you that what we\u2019re defending here is something significant:<\/p>\n\n\n\n Your voice. My voice. Our freedom to speak the truth without fear.<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n So let\u2019s stay close. Let\u2019s stay strong.
