{"id":11083,"date":"2026-03-27T14:17:10","date_gmt":"2026-03-27T18:17:10","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/cafe.nfshost.com\/?p=11083"},"modified":"2026-03-27T14:17:10","modified_gmt":"2026-03-27T18:17:10","slug":"canadians-for-justice-and-peace-in-the-middle-east-warns-passage-of-c-9-will-limit-protests-against-escalating-israeli-violence-in-palestine-and-the-middle-east","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/cafe.nfshost.com\/?p=11083","title":{"rendered":"Canadians for Justice and Peace in the Middle East Warns Passage of C-9 Will Limit Protests Against Escalating Israeli Violence in Palestine and the Middle East"},"content":{"rendered":"\n<p>This week, Members of Parliament voted to adopt Bill C-9, ushering in a <strong>dangerous roll-back of civil liberties<\/strong> that will be used to target the Palestine solidarity movement.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>The bill was adopted 186 to 137 with Liberals and Bloc MPs voting in favour, while the NDP, Green, and Conservatives voted against.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>As CJPME has <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjpme.org\/pr_2025_12_01_joint_statement?e=5d3e1ce6e4ede1e8b87dd5e05828ac32&amp;utm_source=cjpme&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=em_2026_03_27_demos&amp;n=2&amp;v=3136\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">long argued<\/a> alongside our partners, <strong>C-9 criminalizes protest, suppresses dissent, and expands police discretionary power.<\/strong> The bill was rushed through Parliament without full review or debate, ignoring the significant concerns raised by civil society.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>This legislation to restrict dissent was passed just days after Israel\u2019s Ambassador <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cjpme.org\/r?u=U7oo6AW8yzqx2hRmGpUwb7WQ6K_vdn-EZA7PMirpHMPZ9E4JeOYjAKxS2NX4mBFmGzOioa9MsUMbPJ_ZmBISpynvAjiL-ADcdqPuYw0zrWkoCYsxk3r92auHe7bJaINvXL_jOsCFFMmJeuddVMgrdw&amp;e=5d3e1ce6e4ede1e8b87dd5e05828ac32&amp;utm_source=cjpme&amp;utm_medium=email&amp;utm_campaign=em_2026_03_27_demos&amp;n=3&amp;v=3136\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener\">called<\/a> for Canada to <strong>limit certain \u201cfreedoms,\u201d<\/strong> and amid escalating Israeli violence in Palestine, Lebanon, and Iran.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>However, the fight is not over. <strong>Now that the Bill has passed the House of Commons, it moves to the Senate<\/strong>. Senators will have an opportunity to properly review and debate the bill, bringing in expert witnesses.
