Specifically, she suggested that the notorious Auschwitz concentration camp was a \u201cwork camp\u201d and was not used for systematic extermination.<\/strong><\/p>\n<p>Hundreds of\u00a0protesters, primarily from\u00a0the Die Rechte party, rallied in\u00a0the city of\u00a0Bielefeld, west\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sputniknews.com\/tags\/geo_Germany\/\">Germany<\/a>,\u00a0on\u00a0Thursday, calling for\u00a0the release of\u00a0Ursula Haverbeck,\u00a0<a href=\"http:\/\/www.dw.com\/en\/far-right-protest-for-release-of-nazi-grandma\/a-43735301\">according to\u00a0Deutsche Welle<\/a>.<\/p>\n<p>A counter-protest, consisting of\u00a0around 600 campaigners, was also held. Two police officers suffered minor injuries after\u00a0clashing with\u00a0the\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/sputniknews.com\/tags\/product_left-wing_party\/\">leftwing<\/a>\u00a0counter-protesters.<\/p>\n<p>Last October, Haverbeck was convicted for\u00a0eight counts of\u00a0incitement and launched a failed appeal bid. She didn\u2019t turn up\u00a0to prison by\u00a0her designated deadline (April 23) to\u00a0begin serving her sentence, prompting police to\u00a0arrest her at\u00a0home and transport her to\u00a0prison on\u00a0May 7.<\/p>\n<p>The \u201c<a href=\"https:\/\/sputniknews.com\/tags\/keyword_Nazi\/\">Nazi<\/a>\u00a0Grandma\u201d has been convicted of\u00a0similar offenses, incurring fines for\u00a0her comments, but\u00a0this is the first time she has been imprisoned.<\/p>\n<p>Haverback said, in\u00a0a trial in\u00a02015, that the Auschwitz facility is \u201cnot historically proven\u201d to\u00a0an extermination camp, claiming \u201cthis is only a belief.\u201d<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Finally, some Germans speaking up for Ursula Haverbeck!
